TRAINED IN RIGHTEOUSNESS:
Prayers That Move Mountains
Introduction
My name is Terri Tidwell. I was born in 1959, and I grew up in a small west Texas town. I led a very quiet, simple life. Then when I was 28 years old, the Spirit called my name. I said, “Yes!” There was an intense longing inside of me to find God. I wanted Him more than I had ever wanted anything else in my life. Once I found Him, I followed hard after Him. I did everything I knew to try to please Him. I read my Bible. I prayed. I went to church. I taught Sunday School. I went on mission trips. I tried to live out the life I thought He wanted me to live, but nothing I did seemed to make a difference. Then in 2009 God began to speak to me personally. He opened up scripture so that passages that I had read my entire life came into focus. Finally, in 2011 God gave me a parable that changed my life forever. With this parable came understanding. As I began to walk in the understanding, God’s Kingdom advanced with power. My life began to transform, and the lives of those I came in contact with began to change, too.
When I meditate on what I am witnessing and what I am reading, I realize that God’s power comes when we pray. Jesus tells us in John 14:12-14, “I tell you the truth, anyone who believes in Me will do the same works I have done, and even greater works, because I am going to be with the Father. You can ask for anything in My name, and I will do it, so that the Son can bring glory to the Father. Yes, ask Me for anything in My name, and I will do it!” Wow! This is huge! We will do even greater works than Jesus, because He is going to give us everything we ASK for. Why is this not happening? James 4:1-3 tells us why.
“What is causing the quarrels and fights among you? Don’t they come from the evil desires at war within you? You want what you don’t have, so you scheme and kill to get it. You are jealous of what others have, but you can’t get it, so you fight and wage war to take it away from them. Yet you don’t have what you want because you don’t ask. And even when you ask, you don’t get it because your motives are all wrong - you want only what will give you pleasure.” From this passage I find that most of our prayers are selfish. There are evil desires inside of us. We want what we want, and we want it now. We want our ease and our comfort. We want our pride and our power. But God wants something different. God wants to set us free from our sin. He wants to heal us from the inside out. He wants to teach us to trust Him, and He wants to bring honor to His holy name. God is preparing us for the ages to come. He is transforming us into the sons of God. “But to all who believed Him and accepted Him, He gave the right to become children of God,” (John 1:12) We are becoming children of God. Our heart is lining up with His, and our prayers reflect that. It is at this point that we do the same works that Jesus did, and even greater works than that because Jesus is with the Father. It is the desire of Jesus to bring much glory to His Father, and He does that by answering our prayers.
So this book is designed to do two things. First, we have to UNDERSTAND who God is and what He wants. Once we understand, we can come into His presence and ASK Him to do what He wants to do anyway. His heart and our heart become one. We see people and circumstances through His eyes. We see His plans and purposes unfold before our very eyes, and we pray. Mountains move. We stand in awe.
PRAYERS THAT MOVE MOUNTAINS
LORD, I open my heart wide to You and ask that You come in. Search me and know me, try my anxious thoughts. See if there is any wicked way in me, and lead me into life everlasting. I am asking that You would give me eyes to see and ears to hear and a heart to understand what the Spirit is saying. Teach me Your ways, and show me Your paths. Teach me to trust You. Create in me a clean heart and an upright spirit. Let Your word not return void, but let it accomplish that which it was sent to accomplish. May it be planted in Fertile soil, and may it bring forth a hundred fold harvest of righteousness. And may You receive much glory from what I think, say, and do. I ask this in the mighty name of Jesus. AMEN
